SAS – Large modern supermarket with a decent fresh fruit and veg section. Also has good bakery and wine sections (Calle Nicolás Ortíz, Sucre)

Mercado Central – Fruit and veg at the cheapest prices. Don’t miss the juice stalls. The freshly squeezed juices are made on the spot and there is a large variety of fruits to choose from. The fruit salads are pretty awesome also. Just double check with the friendly ladies that they’re using purified water (Aniceto Arce, Sucre – downstairs)

Me and my partner are both vegetarians experimenting veganism at the moment and these places would definitely be on our list if one day we went to Sucre. I really liked the look of Abis Patio, one day perhaps! 🙂

Wow, being vegetarian is sometimes tough when traveling let alone being vegan! Very much hope you get to visit Sucre one day and try one of Abis Patios famous brownies 🙂

If I ever visit I will be definitely checking these places out, it’s not always easy being a vegetarian while travelling!

It certainly isn’t easy Becky, especially in developing countries. Sucre really surprised me with its range of vegetarian dining options. It was lovely to have choices rather than the same old rice and beans option.

I am not vegetarian, but I love eating healthy foods and a lot of veggies. It’s great to see that Sucre is full of affordable restaurants where I could enjoy a plate of healthy goodness!

You sure can! As much as I love the street-food in Bolivia it’s usually fried and a bit stodgy. Having lovely salads and tons of veggie options at super duper cheap prices was really refreshing.

Nice looking selection of restaurants – honestly don’t know much about Bolivia but impressed by some of the places on the list and the great looking food pics!

Cheers Frank! It’s crazy, I wasn’t expecting anywhere near the amount of vego friendly restaurants there are in both Sucre and La Paz. Bolivia is definitely vegetarian friendly if you know where to look 🙂

Great list! Thanks for sharing. I’ll be bookmarking this page for any visits in the future! I definitely think it can be tricky finding good veggie spots, or even restaurants/cafes that have a few veggie choices on the menu. Marrakech and Brussels have some good options, so if you ever need a recommendation let me know. 🙂

It definitely can be tricky if you don’t know where to look…it’s always such a relief when I see something on the menu other than a garden salad! Yes, will definitely hit you up for vego restaurant suggestions if I head to Marrakech or Brussels 🙂

Thanks so much! We are vegetarian and had been wondering how challenging that would be in Sucre…will definitely be looking up these options!

No problems at all Daneen! I also wondered how challenging it would be being vegetarian in Bolivia before I visited, turns out the country is full of lovely vegetarian-friendly restaurants and cafes. Have also written a guide to vegetarian-friendly restaurants in La Paz if you wanted to check that out also 🙂

Just organizing things for my South America trip and I have to say this has me excited to go now, since I am a vegetarian and all. IN fact, the whole country seems to be friendly to us and this is a huge load off my shoulders. Now, If I could only lighten up that backpack I will be carrying around for 9 months! Great post.

Great to hear your travelling to South America Shea, you’re in for a wonderful time! I’m also vegetarian and had no trouble at all finding lovely places to eat throughout the country. Safe travels 🙂
